Principal Architect

Sean Canning

Sean opened Ten Seventy Architecture in 2011, focusing initially on residential remodels and additions. Over the last decade the architecture studio has expanded to include larger new construction projects. The focus of Sean’s work at Ten Seventy Architecture is modern / minimalist architectural styles which are custom tailored to San Diego’s unique climate and landscapes.

Sean has a Bachelors of Architecture from NJIT. After moving to San Diego he went back to college and earned a Certificate in Project Management from SDSU. Sean is also a LEED Accredited Professional.

What I Do Here

I manage the design of all of Ten Seventy Architecture’s projects. My role is to continue to nurture and grow our studio’s design process which I established over a decade ago. This results in beautiful and functional modern projects which are unified by our architectural ideals. Additionally I am responsible for marketing, scheduling, + all other general business operations.

Who I Am

I grew up in NJ, drawing and building things. My parents remodeled my tree house about every two years throughout my childhood as I presented them with crayon drawings of fantastical ideas of self-supported bridges and secret passages. Eventually, I realized those skills translated well to architecture. After earning a scholarship, I studied at NJIT, earning a Bachelor of Architecture.

What I’m In To

I enjoy a diversity of artistic endeavors. Music has always been my favorite art form and I have been playing guitar since I was a teenager. I could be considered an expert in the 80s glam metal genre.  My current guitar is a magenta-colored Jackson. Additionally I am fascinated by martial arts, earning a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jujitsu as an adult. My favorite movies are Stand By Me + Terminator 2.
